Operational and structural interventions in the field of stormwater management are usually planned based on long-term simulations using rainfall-runoff models. The simulation results often highly uncertain due to imperfections model structure inevitable uncertainties input data. trend towards monitoring combined sewer overflows (CSO) structures produces more data which can be used replace parts models reduce uncertainty. In this study we use resolved online flow quality optimize static outflow settings CSO tanks. a second step, additional benefit real time control (RTC) strategies is assessed. both cases aim reduction emissions. methodology developed conceptual drainage system with two tanks then applied case area Southern Germany six A measured series months sufficient for reliable optimization catchment as well system. investigated choice objective (minimum overflow volume or total suspended solids (TSS) load) had no significant influence result. presented method particularly suitable areas available, but hydrological parameters uncertain.
